CCB has a service agreement with the Berkshire Association of Local Councils to provide advice, training and information to member town and parish councils in Berkshire.
Jayne Kirk, County Executive Officer, provides that service for member councils. If a parish or town council has a query concerning any aspect of their work, they can turn to BALC for help. Most queries are dealt with at county level; other more complex legal ones are referred to the legal team at the National Association of Local Councils in London.
BALC also provides training for councillors and clerks. Experienced trainers with specialist knowledge of the sector provide training on topics such as finance, planning, Freedom of Information, allotments, Chairmanship and in particular courses for new councillors.
Parish councils have been in existence since 1894, they are the tier of local government closest to the community especially in rural areas. In recent years they have become more important to central government and are being given more powers to deliver services.
BALC keeps parish councils informed about new legislation and consultations, its website provides information on events, training and news and it has a large document library of legal topic notes, booklets, presentation and other useful reference documents.
You can find more information and resources on the main BALC website.
